Crane maintenance and rail replacement at the Potrerillos smelter
Maintenance of the PH cranes in the smelter building, rail replacement, and fabrication and erection of structures at the Potrerillos smelter of Codelco Salvador, with a workforce of 75.
In the Potrerillos smelter building, LTF carried out maintenance of the PH cranes that travel along the building, replaced the rails they run on, and fabricated and erected structures for the smelter. It is work at height, on the beams and platforms of the building, planned together with plant operations.
The job was carried out with a workforce of 75 and was documented in the photo and video record LTF made on site in December 2025. That record includes the testimony of Nicolás, the company’s mechanical advisor on structural erection, about the trade and the training of younger workers.

Potrerillos smelter, Atacama Region.
Site context
The Potrerillos smelter and refinery belongs to Codelco’s Salvador Division and sits in the Andean foothills of the Atacama Region. It processes concentrates from the Division itself and from other operations, and runs a Teniente converter and Peirce-Smith converters.
It is a plant under constant renewal: in July 2021 it carried out a 12-day partial shutdown, with 260 contractor workers, on the Teniente converter, the evaporative cooling tower and the wet precipitators, according to Reporte Minero. In 2026 it received a new Peirce-Smith converter shell manufactured in Chile, according to Nueva Minería.
