Ten of our twelve published projects were carried out at the Chuquicamata smelter. In Calama we have a branch office and our own fabrication shop. Shop fabrication and site work for Codelco’s Chuquicamata Division.
The LTF branch office in Calama is in the Puerto Seco industrial district, at Sitio Mz 16, Calle Jilberto Gómez Contardo, and serves as a fabrication shop and base for the work at the Chuquicamata smelter. The five super duplex coil sections for the smelter’s dryer 6 were fabricated there, between China and Calama.
From Calama, LTF has carried out work for Codelco’s Chuquicamata Division on the Flash Furnace and its boiler, the acid plant, the casting wheels, dryer 6, the rails of the building cranes and the oxygen lines, with workforces of up to about 250 people on double shifts.

Puerto Seco fabrication shop
Shop fabrication in Calama: the dryer 6 coil sections were made between China and this shop, with super duplex welding, bending and drilling of matrices.
Work at the smelter
Mechanical installation, piping, special welding and maintenance on the Flash Furnace, the boiler, the acid plant, the casting wheels, dryer 6, the cranes and the oxygen lines.

Projects carried out with workforces of 50 to about 250 people, on double shifts or rotating shifts, as each contract required.

Fabrication and maintenance of dryer 6 coils
Fabrication of five coil sections in super duplex steel for dryer 6 of the Chuquicamata smelter, with their installation, repair of the dryer shell, and replacement of the piping and electrically actuated valves. Workforce of 140 on rotating shifts.

Flash Furnace ancillary works contract
Ancillary works contract for the Chuquicamata Flash Furnace: ladle enclosures, fugitive gas system piping, copper launders, baghouse filters, electrically actuated valves and installation of the VTI and VTF units. About 250 people on double shifts.

Replacement of casting wheels 3 and 4
Complete dismantling and installation of casting wheels 3 and 4 at the Chuquicamata smelter, from the spokes, rollers and racks to the hydraulic system, take-off and weighing scales, with commissioning and calibration. Workforce of 150 on double shifts.

ZeCor-Z welding and acid plant maintenance
ZeCor-Z welding from 2 to 16 inches, catalyst replacement, repair of FRP equipment, and fabrication and installation of ZeCor and FRP piping at the acid plant of the Chuquicamata smelter. Workforce of 150 on double shifts.
