The dryer is a rotating drum with heated tube bundles inside, the coils, which remove moisture from the concentrate before smelting.
For dryer 6 of the Chuquicamata smelter, LTF fabricated five new coil sections in super duplex steel, between China and its Calama shop, including the welding, bending and drilling of the matrices. On site it removed the existing sections, installed the new ones, repaired the dryer shell with plates and welding, and replaced the piping and electrically actuated valves. The job was carried out in 2024 with 140 people on rotating shifts.
