Five coil sections in super duplex steel. Welding, bending and drilling of matrices for the Chuquicamata dryer 6.
Super duplex stainless steels combine a microstructure of austenite and ferrite with high chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen contents, which gives them high mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. That is why they are used in equipment that works in demanding conditions, such as the coils of a concentrate dryer.
For dryer 6 of the Chuquicamata smelter, LTF fabricated five coil sections in super duplex steel, between China and its Calama shop, including the welding, bending and drilling of the matrices. On site it installed the new sections, repaired the dryer shell and replaced the piping and electrically actuated valves, with 140 people on rotating shifts, in 2024.
