Dozens of copper lines, each with its own valve and silver-brazed joints. The system that cools the elements of the Chuquicamata Flash Furnace.
Silver brazing joins metals with a filler metal, a silver-bearing alloy, that melts at a lower temperature than the parts being joined. It is a common technique for joining copper tubing in water circuits such as those that cool the elements of a furnace.
On the Chuquicamata Flash Furnace, LTF fabricated and installed the cooling circuits that feed the furnace’s water-cooled elements: dozens of copper lines, each with its own valve, joined by silver brazing and connected to 316L stainless steel supply manifolds. The job was carried out in 2023 with 200 people on rotating shifts.

Every point comes from a real LTF project: each project sheet is linked below.
Silver-brazed joints
Silver brazing of the copper lines of the furnace cooling system.
Circuit by circuit
Each copper line with its own valve, connected to its supply manifold.

Request a proposal →What is silver brazing?
A brazing process with a silver alloy filler metal that melts at a lower temperature than the parts being joined. It is used to join copper tubing.
Where did LTF apply silver brazing?
On the cooling circuits of the Flash Furnace at the Chuquicamata smelter, in 2023.
What are the circuits connected to?
To 316L stainless steel supply manifolds, with supply systems of 6, 8 and 10 inches.
