Arrival of A192 tubes for the Chuquicamata boiler banks

The LTF shop in Concón received the lot of A192 tubes for fabricating the three banks of the convection section of the Chuquicamata boiler. The lot includes the boiler tubes and the inlet and outlet headers for each bank, shipped from Argentina in two trucks carrying the complete order.

After unloading and storing the material in transit, the quality team carries out the inspection to verify that both the tubes and the headers match the purchase request and the technical specifications of the project.

Once the material is released, the fabrication order goes to the shop, where the drawings specify the cutting, sizing, jig layout and welding of each of the serpentine coils that make up the boiler tube banks. The goal is for the client to keep its critical equipment in optimal condition.

ASTM A192 is the standard covering seamless carbon steel tubes for boilers and superheaters in high-pressure service. It is the material used for the serpentine coils of the banks in the boiler convection section: each tube is cut, sized, laid out on jigs and welded according to the drawings until the complete bank is formed, which is then certified before leaving the shop.

The inlet and outlet headers distribute and collect the flow in each bank. Receiving tubes and headers together, and checking them against the purchase order and the technical specification before releasing the material, is what ensures that the fabricated bank matches what the client specified.
